Foundry Gas Leaks Repaired Despite Restrictions

PROBLEM
Before isolation valves could be installed to this foundry, the local gas authority had insisted that all gas leaks within the premises should first be repaired. The integrity inspection contractor had identified two leaks in the pipework and was instructed to obtain costs for repairs. The conventional solution would have been to replace the pipe sections, at great effort and expense, and so RU Coated was approached for a more convenient and cost-effective repair.
After initial inspection, it became obvious that the elevated areas would be difficult to get to, preparation would be minimal, and there was no guarantee that the gas flow could be turned off. We agreed to do the application to help minimise costs, but with so much working against us, the work was accepted on a “Best Effort Basis”.
SOLUTION
Despite the gas leaks persisting during the work, and being restricted to minimal preparation, all of the repairs to the elevated pipe sections were completed successfully within just 5 hours. The pipe was returned to service the following day, and a full application report was drafted for the client.
The foundry was delighted with the repairs, which had cost about 10% of the quoted pipe replacements.
