Marine Chiller Units Made Ship-Shape Again

PROBLEM

Two sets of aluminium chiller units in a newly commissioned ship had suffered severe metal loss caused by microbial attack and bi-metallic corrosion.

The ship’s engine chillers had become inoperable after just 8 months and replacements could not be found before the ship was due to sale.

SOLUTION

RU Coated undertook a complete refurbishment of the units at our workshops using Belzona materials.
This precision repair involved a complete rebuild of the original dimensions with “cold work” techniques, including reforming stripped threads and the gasket channels.

To protect the unit from further damage, an abrasion resistant lining was applied to internal surfaces.
When handed back, the units were accompanied with a complete report of environmental and application conditions recorded throughout the work.

Both units were returned in good time and at a fraction of the cost for replacement.
