TANK RIM REPAIRS AND BASE SEAL

PROBLEM

Water collecting on the rim of this tank had corroded the steel to the point where there were several through wall defects around the rim. In addition, the sealant recently used to attempt a weathering seal around the base, had already failed and was actually channelling water under the tank base.

The risk of under base corrosion had dramatically increased and so a quick solution was required that would avoid hot works.

SOLUTION

RU Coated has a good reputation for this kind of work, having designed hundreds of tank base seals, and so we were approached for a solution.

Having completed the specification, the chosen contractor also requested assistance with the application and our inspection services. We assisted throughout the work, repairing the annular rim, and applying the Belzona tank base seal system.

For many years our clients have recognised the long-term value of applying Tank Base Seals. This particular chemical site has about half their tanks protected, and in the following month we were commissioned to work on a further six tanks.
