Pipe Repair Under Extreme Conditions

PROBLEM
A 10″ effluent pipe had failed dramatically despite recent repairs with an internal GRP lining.
Initial inspections indicated a crack, from the 4 to 8 O’clock positions.
However, the client was unsure that isolation was possible and prohibited many preparation methods.
In addition, only external repairs were possible, and these were in a pit with limited access, and had to be completed in the winter.
Furthermore, once work started, it became obvious that there was very little of the original pipe remaining and defects ran from the 3 to 9 O’clock positions.
SOLUTION
RU Coated conducted the initial inspections and provided a working recommendation and materials that could accommodate a range of contingency stages to account for many unforeseen problems that could arise during the restricted time available.
When it was found that the damage was more severe, we were able to react quickly to the changes on site and the work continued with minimal disruption.
Despite the harsh work conditions and restrictions, the work was successfully completed in good time and the pipe was returned to service after 2 days.
