Rebuilt Bolster on Foundry Press

PROBLEM
Continuous use over many years had stripped the threads on the lower bolster of a 2500 tonne press.
The misalignment of the die sets resulted in an unprecedented level of rejected units and was creating logistical problems for the foundry’s automotive customers.
The cost of a new press was considered prohibitive and so a solution was required for the existing press.
SOLUTION
RU Coated offered a working recommendation and conducted the repair work required to rebuild the damaged threads.
The work was completed using £330 of Belzona materials and we also trained the maintenance staff so that they could repeat the application.
The press was soon back in operation, producing 200 castings an hour, 24/7. The customer estimated production alone at over £38K per day.
This repair lasted 112 days before it needed repeating, by which time it had secured over £4.3M in production.
